Widowmaker discography

Steve Ellis and Ariel Bender formed Widowmaker in 1975, bringing along Bob Daisley (ex Chicken Shack), Paul Nicolls (ex Lindisfarne) and Huw Lloyd-Langton (ex Hawkwind). Ellis spent two years with the band, recording one eponymous LP and three singles with them, but he had left the band by the time they entered the studio to cut the second album, "Too Late To Cry", in 1977 - although he wrote half the songs on it (uncredited). John Butler (later in Diesel Park West) was his replacement - but the band folded soon after.

This discography details Widowmaker albums and singles from all over the world. I am always looking to add more worldwide pressings, so get in touch if you can help. Quick links:

    POP SPECTACULAR - SHOW #126 (1976)

Tracks: Come On Up / Such A Shame / Too Late To Cry / El Doomo / Ain't Telling You Nothing / When I Met You

    - UK LP: BBC Transcription Services CN 2607/5

Comments: BBC recorded Widowmaker and Upp (who were touring together at the time) live at BBC's Paris Theatre on the 26 September 1976, and the concert was broadcast shortly after, on the "In Concert" programme. Transcription discs of the full show were also sent to other radio stations all over the world, who subscribed to the BBC transcription service. Only a handful such discs have found their way to collectors - the ultimate Widowmaker rarity!

    - Switzerland CD: Blue Martin Records BLM 330062-2 (pictured left)
    - Switzerland 12" single: Blue Martin Records (cat no unknown)

Comments: Swizz rockers The Foolhouse recorded three new songs for their greatest hits compilation "Foolish Years" in 1993, and "Pin A Rose On Me" was by far the strongest one. This recording was later made available on a limited 12" single as well.
