Pandora's Box: Original Sin (1989)
[Pandora's Box CD] Ellen Foley was one of four vocalists in this group

Songs: The Invocation / Original Sin (The Natives Are Restless Tonight) / Twentieth Century Fox / Safe Sex / Good Girls Go To Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere) / Requiem Metal / I've Been Dreaming Up A Storm Lately / It's All Coming Back To Me Now / The Opening Of The Box / The Want Ad / My Little Red Book / It Just Won't Quit / Pray Lewd / The Future Ain't What It Used To Be

Pandora's Box were a studio group consisting of Steinman and four lead singers: Ellen Foley, Elaine Caswell, Deliria Wilde and Gina Taylor, although Laura Theodore and Holly Sherwood also contribute lead vocals to some songs. Ellen is lead vocalist on "The Invocation", "Twentieth Century Fox", "The Want Ad" and "My Little Red Book", shares lead with the other girls on "Original Sin" (The Natives Are Restless Tonight)" and sings backup on most of the other songs.

Jim Steinman wrote the majority of songs and produced their only album, "Original Sin". He had wanted to work with Ellen again for some time, and he also found the other three girls via Ellen. Elaine Caswell worked with Ellen on "Nightout" and Joe Jackson's "Body And Soul", and Gina Taylor played alongside Ellen in the 1986 musical "Beehive".

Steinman discussed the new album in November 1989: "Well, I don't sing on it. It's four girl vocalists with me on keyboards. I wanted to do a Shangri-La's type of record, and I wanted to work with Ellen Foley (who was on Bat Out Of Hell and recently appeared in the hit film Fatal Attraction) again. I'm planning a new Meat Loaf album - twelve years later he has his voice back - so I wanted to do a female record first." He also planned for the group to do live performances: "Rather than having them just standing there singing backup, one leaves the stage and then the other comes out and sings. At the end all four should be like different aspects of the same person. It's a concept I've always wanted to try; the four of them making up one person, like the four faces of Pandora."

But sadly it wasn't to be. The album flopped in England and it wasn't even released in USA. Three singles from the album were released in the UK, available in three formats (CD-single, 7" and 12" vinyl). The CD-singles have the same songs as the 12" singles and are not listed. The album was re-issued in 2006 with a bonus DVD containing promo videos.

CHILDREN OF THE WORLD - THE TIME IS NOW (1980)
[Shelter - Original Cast Recording CD] including Ellen Foley and Jimmy Hall: "The Time Is Now"

Ellen Foley and Jimmy Hall recorded "The Time Is Now" for the Cleveland International charity album "Children Of The World - The Time Is Now" (it was also available as a single). The album supported the non-profit Northern Ohio Children's Performing Music Foundation. "The Time Is Now" was originally an anti-Vietnam protest song released in 1969 by the band Everybody's Children. The writer Kenny Young's most famous song is "Under the Boardwalk", recorded by The Drifters in 1964.

Jimmy Hall was lead vocalist and saxophonist with Wet Willie during the 70s, and he had just released his first solo album, "Touch You" when this track was recorded. In the 80s and 90s he worked with Jeff Beck, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocalist for Jeff Beck's 1985 "Flash" album.
